Bratislava the Capital City of Slovakia

A step forward for Bratislava

Parking in Bratislava needs a system. The Bratislava Parking Assistant service will give the capital city clear rules and conditions applicable to everyone.

Residents will be able to buy a parking card through a separate website or at contact points. Registration for the first zones is available from December 2021.

In regulated zones, non-residents will pay an hourly rate according to the tariff for the given zone and time. It will be possible to pay through mobile applications, ticket machines, or at points of sa le. Information about the given zone and payment options will be published online as well as on information boards in the streets.

Why regulated parking?

^

The number of cars in Bratislava has doubled over the last 20 years. That is why parking has become a problem in the areas where we live.

^

Bratislava residents make up the vast majority of vehicle traffic in Bratislava, so charging non-residents for parking would not solve the situation. For instance, in the area around Mlynské Nivy, where many people work, about 89% of the cars parked during the day belonged to the residents of our city.

^

It is not in the power of our city, nor does the city have enough public space, to provide public parking for the constantly increasing number of cars in Bratislava.

^

To avoid a complete collapse of traffic in the city and to prevent turning the entire public space into a car park, the movement and parking of cars must be regulated.

^

Therefore, we have prepared a set of uniform rules for citywide regulated parking, approved by the municipal council in June 2019. We see the parking regulation as a service for the inhabitants of our city.

^

Parking requires a clear system, uniform rules, and conditions defining where parking is permitted and where it is not.

^

We need to bring order to the public spaces where pedestrians, cyclists and cars all clash.

^

We want to improve the availability of parking for residents close to where they reside. One way to do this is by introducing an hourly rate for visitors and better parking enforcement. Learn more about parking enforcement

^

The Parking Assistant motivates non-residents to park their cars on the outskirts of the city and make use of public transport. Funds from regulated parking will also be used to improve the network of park-and-ride facilities and public transport.

^

Uniform rules and the introduction of objective liability will help us improve parking enforcement.

How will you know where to park?

Parking for residents and non-residents will be colour-coded on information signs in parking zones:

Modrá tabuľa

A blue PAAS sign indicates residential parking. The code PE 1 designates parking spaces for holders of resident cards for the Petržalka 1 zone.

A green PAAS sign indicates non-resident parking. A numerical code marks the given zone and is used for zone identification when paying. By scanning the QR code, you will be able to use a mobile application to pay for parking according to the hourly rate.
